Under Construction
This week has been a lot. We spent Monday in a hospital while my father-in-law received donor lungs. How incredible is that? {but also, why is sitting and waiting the most exhausting thing on the actual planet??}. We drove home late, so kiddos could head back to school. My mother-in-law came to stay for a few days, car shopping, my house had to be speed cleaned for small group, because we had left for the hospital in the middle of a gusto of Marie Kondo-ing. 🙄 Brad had an out of town work trip and I started a pretty awesome,...
How Can I Help?
This year has started off with a bang for our family. In a 7 week time span, both of our dads have had major, life altering surgeries. It sort of feels like we are at the mercy of the ocean. If you missed them, here are the stories: https://artistictherapy.net/blogs/news/my-daddy-almost-died-twice-this-week-instead-im-the-one-who-saw-jesus https://artistictherapy.net/blogs/news/to-the-man-who-will-give-my-husbands-daddy-his-lungs https://artistictherapy.net/blogs/news/the-call With my dad, the wreck came up like a tsunami. Did not see it coming. We went from planning Christmas with family, to brain surgery. BAM! We are still hearing from every medical professional who saw him how miraculous it is that he lived. {praise You, Jesus!}....
Traumat-EYE-zed...again
I have once again been traumat-EYE-zed. Yes. I will add the original story at the bottom of this blog--just so you can laugh your face off today. You're welcome... This weekend, our family went for a glorious walk in the woods. It stopped raining for a solid 30 minutes on a Saturday and we lived it up. (I would insert an eye roll emoji here, but it's just too soon...) One of the coolest things about having a golden retriever after a husky is that we can let him off leash and he doesn't run to Canada looking for...
Who are the Hidden Figures in Your Life?
Last night we started watching Hidden Figures with the kids. It wasn’t intentionally to launch black history month. It just felt like the right time. Yesterday, when I dropped Asher off at middle school, we saw a situation between a white boy and a black boy. It felt like it was escalating to a fight, but honestly at that age, it is hard to tell if it’s besties being rowdy or anger, unless you’re close enough to hear the words. As I drove away, I saw it. The white kid was following behind the black kid just yelling. I...
Out With the Old, In With the New
This weekend, the plan was to rearrange our bedroom. Friday, I accidentally went to Home Depot, bought some paint, and repainted the kitchen--surprising Brad when he came home from work. Like..surprise! you married an idiot! For the next several days, our house was a complete disaster. No room--honestly not many spaces were unaffected. He married a creative, he knew what he was getting-ish. I literally didn't have a plan. I just had a whim, and went for it. As we lived around my great ideas for several days, we hashed out different ways we could shake things up and...
